The MBD Model
The Marriages by Design Model is based on the truth that God is the architect and builder of our marriage relationship. Each stage of the building process will be covered, as shown below.
Format: Days 1-5
In this stage (the planning or formatting stage), you will determine what and who is needed to help you with the construction or remodeling of your marriage relationship. Anything that is built well is created twice; first it is planned or built in concept, and then the plan is implemented in the actual building. This is the purpose of a blueprint on a construction site. Blueprints give specifications to what is to be built and define expectations of what is to be built and how it is to be built. This formatting stage consults the parties involved to get an estimate of the work that needs to be done. In your marriage, these parties are:
- The Designer – God
- The Builder – Self
- The Co-Builder – Spouse
After this consultation, the plan for the building project will be established.
Foundation: Days 6-19
This portion of the study is about building on a strong foundation or shoring up the cracks in the foundation. Any structure is only as strong as the foundation it is built upon. Every relationship must be built from the ground up. Every marriage must be built on certain principles or cornerstones. This section of the guide will examine the four cornerstones that give structural integrity to the relationship:
Framework: Days 20-27
This is about establishing the structure of the marriage in having the four attitudes present in strong and vibrant relationships. These are:
Finish work: Days 28-40
The finishing work of the marriage makes the relationship not just livable but desirable. In this section, you will be given practical applications to enhance your marriage daily – as carpenters would say, ”Getting it in the dry.”
Once you have the roof and are out or the elements, you can really start working on the details of the marriage home you will be living in. Here you will choose what you want your marriage to look like in its finished form.
